Supra Turbo MkIII Balljoint Replacement

Please note that balljoints can only be replaced on Supras 1987 onwards.  I felt a  slight judder on the  steering wheel when my balljoints had slightly worn.

Balljoints Item Number = 43330-19057. Price £109.24 + Vat Each

Checking

Raise the vehicle and support using jack stands etc.
Visually inspect the rubber boot for cuts, tears or leaking grease - If any of these conditions  are noticed, the balljoint must be replaced.
Place a large prybar under the balljoint and attempt to push the balljoint up. Next, position the prybar between the steering knuckle and
the lower arm and apply pressure.  If any movement is seen or felt during either of these checks, a worn out balljoint is indicated.
Have an assistant grasp the tire at the top & bottom and shake the top of the tire with an in-and-out motion.  Touch the balljoint stud nut.
If any movement is felt, then replace balljoint.

Replacing worn out balljoints

1) Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands.
2) Remove the circlip from the balljoint stud and loosen the castle nut a couple of turns.
3) Separate the balljoint from the steering knuckle with a balljoint separator, then remove nut.
4) Remove the three bolts that retain the balljoint to the lower control arm and slide the balljoint out.
5) To install the balljoint, position it on the lower arm and install the bolts, DON'T TIGHTEN UP
6) Insert the balljoint stud into the steering knuckle and install the nut,  tightening the balljoint to the lower arm bolts. (177 Ft-lbs)
7) Install the wheel and nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts.
8) Carry out the checks above.  If it still fails then you will have to replace the steering knuckle as well.
