Supra Turbo MkIII Cooling System

The cooling system should be filled with a water/ethylene glycol antifreeze solution, which will prevent freezing down to at least -20 degrees F It also provides protection against corrosion and increases the coolant boiling point.

I have tried a couple of Anti-Freezes, but they don't contain all the right chemicals. Toyota sell a 5 litre container already mixed, priced at £14.99. This stuff does the trick!.

Periodically, the cooling system should be drained, flushed and refilled to replenish the antifreeze mixture and prevent formation of rust and corrosion, which can impair the performance of the cooling system and cause engine damage. At the same time the cooling system is serviced, all hoses and the radiator cap should be inspected and replaced if defective.  Since antifreeze is a corrosive and poisonous solution, be careful not to spill any of the coolant mixture on the Supra's paint or your skin.  If this happens, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water.

Draining the System

1) With the Engine cold, remove the radiator cap.

2) Move a large container under the radiator to catch the coolant as it is drained.

3) Drain the radiator by opening the drain plug at the bottom.  If this drain has excessive corrosion and cannot be turned easily, disconnect the lower radiator hose to allow the coolant to drain.  Be careful that none of the solution is splashed on your skin or in your eyes.

4) Disconnect the hose from the coolant reservoir and remove the reservoir.  Flush it out with clean water (Put hose pipe in, and rinse until dirty water becomes clean)

5) Place hose pipe in the radiator filler neck and flush the system until the water is clean at all points. In severe cases of contamination or clogging of the radiator, You can remove the radiator to flush, or try Radiator flush chemicals. When the coolant is regularly drained and the system refilled with the correct antifreeze/water mixture, there should be no need to use chemical cleaners or descalers.

6) To refill the system, reconnect the radiator hoses and install the reservoir and the overflow hose.

7) Fill the radiator to the base of the filler neck and then add more coolant to the reservoir until it reaches the lower mark.

8) Run the Engine until normal operating temperature is reached and, with the engine idling, add coolant up to the full level. Install the radiator and reservoir caps.

Keep a close watch on the coolant level and the cooling system hoses during the first few miles of driving.  Tighten the hose clamps and / or more coolant as necessary.

Installing an Electronic Fan Overide System

I found this very easy to Install.  It works very well, helps prevent that HG!

Procedure: Electric Fans Override

Purpose: Better Turbo Timer cooldown, Cooldown at track/while racing,Cooldown in stopped traffic.

Test Vehicle: My Supra MkIII

Sills needed: Wire stripping/splicing

Equipment needed:

    Wire strippers/cutters
    Elec. tape
    Solderless connectors
    Off/On Switch, mountable

Procedure:
Access fans' relay and wires
It's in the engine bay, under the fuse block behind battery.
Locate Blue-White wire, on bottom of cylinder-shaped wire plug connector-(off white in colour).
Tap into B/W wire, do not remove stock wiring.
Feed your lead wire into the cabin (I cut hole under clutch pedal).
Connect Switch
Use a easy access off/on pushbutton.
Place the lead onto the first terminal.
Place a chassis ground onto the second terminal.
Operation
     Push button on:
Electric fan(s) come on, draw outside air INTO the engine bay.
     Push button off:
Fans are off, the A/C system still has control over them.
