PSSEBC
(Pete Sterling Semi-Electronic
Boost Controller)
The PSSEBC is a semi-electronic boost controller. It is
the first of its kind that I know of and is completely my design. I would describe it as a
cross between a manual boost controller (MBC) and an electronic boost controller (EBC). It
has most of the more desirable features of an electronic boost controller, but still
possesses some characteristics of an MBC, and has a price that is WELL below that of an
EBC.
Currently, there are two kits available - the 2 setting and the 4 setting. Both kits will
be sold w/ blue silicon hoses (yellow shown here) from HoseTechniques(www.hosetechniques.com) and green or red
illuminated switch(es). The 2 setting kit allows for stock boost and 1 max setting with
the flick of one switch placed inside the cockpit. The 4 setting kit will have two
switches inside the cockpit and allows for stock boost, a sacrificial low
setting (used to
dial-in medium setting), medium setting, and a high setting. Once the settings are
calibrated under the hood, there is no need for any further adjustments. Each setting can
be activated by the position of two switches inside the cockpit. Switching between
settings can be done at anytime...even at wide open throttle.
Picture this - You pull up to a light next to an Integra
Type-R. Yeah, right! 8psi should be enough to take care of this fake emblem buying poser.
Suddenly, in the middle of 3rd gear, while neck and neck, you realize that this may
actually be the real thing! You slam it up to 12psi and leave him in your dust!! No sweat!
The install of this setup is very easy and looks very
clean, IMHO. Check out the pics below and judge for yourself. I have preassembled most of
it, prewired everything, and written a detailed set of instructions. The only wiring
you'll need to do is locating 12V and ground, then splicing into them. I've made this task
incredibly simple by supplying you with special "IDC splice" connectors that
require no cutting, crimping, or insulation stripping. Mounting is also very easy because
each component mounts to existing threaded holes in the engine compartment. *Note - You
will have to drill a 1/2" hole in the dash (or wherever you choose to mount them) for
each switch in order to mount them.
The simplicity of this system really allows for creative installations. For example, Pete
D's setup was kind of interesting. He wanted it to be completely hidden inside his car. He
only felt that he needed 2 settings, but wanted his low setting to be around 8psi. Well,
since he has an A/T, and since he only presses his ECT pwr button when he wants to run
hard, we decided to rig it so that his ECT pwr button also switched him to his high boost
setting at the same time. To get his low setting to 8psi, we shimmed his wastegate. It was
a very stealth setup.
Price of the 2 setting kit will be $150+shipping, while the price of the 4 setting kit
will be $175+shipping. These prices are for SOGI members only. Non-SOGI people can add 20%
to those prices.
I will offer free replacement of parts for 3 years after purchase if anything breaks.
Sure, I'm not a big company, but I've been a respected member of SOGI for 2.5 years now
and don't plan on going anywhere for quite awhile. Also, if you are not satisfied with the
PSSEBC, send it back to me and I'll gladly refund your money without question.
